Your Coastal Portrait Guide
Welcome!
I’m so excited you’ve chosen a beach session! The coast is one of the most timeless and magical backdrops for photos — soft sand, ocean breezes, and glowing light create images that feel relaxed, natural, and full of life. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know so you feel confident and prepared.
What to Wear
Choosing the right outfit can make your photos feel effortless and beautiful:
• Colors that complement the coast: soft neutrals, pastels, earthy tones, and muted blues always photograph well against the ocean.
• Textures & fabrics: lightweight materials like linen and cotton flow naturally in the breeze. Flowy dresses, skirts, and rolled sleeves add a casual yet polished touch.
• Coordinating vs. matching: if you’re planning family or couple photos, think of colors that harmonize rather than identical outfits.
• What to avoid: busy patterns, loud logos, and neon colors can distract from the scenery and your connection.
• Footwear: barefoot is often best, but simple sandals or slip-ons also work well.
• Little extras for a polished look: If you’re wearing a dress, consider shapewear (like Spanx). It’s not required, but many clients find it helps clothing lay smoothly and comfortably, especially with flowing fabrics. The goal isn’t to change your shape — just to help you feel confident.
• Hat tips for photos: Light-colored hats reflect soft, flattering light onto your face. Avoid dark hats, which can cast shadows. Styles like wide-brimmed sun hats, straw hats, or floppy beach hats add a relaxed, elegant touch — just make sure your face isn’t hidden! You may just want to use it as a prop.
Makeup Tips
• Keep it fresh and natural — tinted moisturizer or light foundation works best.
• Use waterproof mascara and eyeliner to stay smudge-free.
• Soft, neutral tones complement the beach and golden light.
• Set your makeup with powder or setting spray to control shine.
Nail Tips
• Choose neutral, soft, or pastel colors for a timeless look.
• Keep nails clean, trimmed, and moisturized.
• Pedicure is recommended since feet may show in photos.
Planning for the Weather
Beach sessions are all about natural beauty, so a little preparation goes a long way:
• Windy days: bring a hair tie or pin to keep strands in place if needed, and consider flowy outfits that look beautiful in the breeze.
• Sunny sessions: sunscreen is your best friend, and a stylish hat or sunglasses can be used between shots.
• Golden hour magic: sunrise and sunset offer the most flattering light for dreamy photos.
• Cooler evenings: pack a light sweater, wrap, or shawl that blends with your outfit.
Making the Most of Your Session
The best photos come when you’re relaxed and enjoying the moment:
• Arrive a little early so you can settle in and adjust to the setting.
• Keep things fun and playful — walking, laughing, twirling, or even splashing in the water often create the most authentic images.
• Bring small props if you’d like — a blanket, straw hat, bouquet of flowers, or picnic basket can add variety without taking away from the natural beauty.
• Trust the process and enjoy the ocean breeze — candid, in-between moments often become the favorites.
After the Session
Once your session wraps up, here’s what you can expect:

• If you purchased the full gallery, you’ll receive a private link with all of your edited portraits.
• If you selected a smaller package, we’ll meet at my home office so you can review the images in person and choose your favorites.
